The Order and Justice party has initiated a parliamentary investigation into alleged leaks of classified intelligence reports and believes that they originate at the Presidential Office.

MP Petras Gražulis, leader of the Order and Justice parliamentary group, says that if the parliament had the will, President Dalia Grybauskaitė would be facing impeachment.

Order and Justice has initiated a formation of a parliamentary commission to look into what the party says is manipulations in the public space using intelligence and criminal intelligence reports and preliminary investigation data. They also say law enforcement institutions have been involved in political rivalry.

Last year, the party nominated its member Vydas Gedvilas for the post of education minister, but President Grybasukaitė rejected the candidacy. She intimated that something in a classified background check report on Gedvilas made him unsuitable for the government job.

“We are turning from a democratic state into a police state and officials get appointed and dismissed on the basis of a wide range of secret statements. We would like to find out who provided the secret reports, what is their content. Doesn‘t it seem strange that Mr. Gedvilas can work as a parliament speaker, first vice-chairman of the Parliament, but cannot take the position of the minister of education because there is some kind of a report? <…> I think that the statements are used for manipulation and this should not be legal in a democratic state,” said Gražulis.

“It is clear that the power structures are used to deal with political opponents, the political parties which are not favoured. I can tell you to whom they are unfavourable: to the president,” said Gražulis.
