Over 850 conscripts to begin serving in Lithuanian army

The servicemen have chosen to do a nine-month mandatory initial military service voluntarily or after being included in the draft list. Most of them will be arriving from major cities – Vilnius, Kaunas, Šiauliai, etc. There are 16 females among volunteers.

Most conscripts will be serving the entire nine-month period in one of four military units: 373 in the King Mindaugas Hussar Battalion deployed in Panevėžys district, 138 in the Grand Duchess Birutė Uhlan Battalion deployed in Alytus, 104 in the Brigade General Kazys Veverskis Training Area in Kazlų Rūda municipality, 36 in the Lithuanian Grand Duke Gediminas Staff Battalion.

For the first eight weeks soldiers will undergo the basic military training, afterwards the specialist training stage will begin. They will later learn to carry out tasks within their units during the collective training stage.
