Poll cards handed in to 92,000 voters in Lithuania so far

The Central Electoral Commission (VRK) has announced that a total of 91,576 poll cards were handed in by Friday 8 a.m.. Members of 17 polling district electoral committees visited all 5,524 voters in their districts and all but 390 of them received poll cards.

Municipal and first ever direct mayoral elections in Lithuania will take place on 1 March. Over 15,000 contenders to municipal councils and over 400 mayoral candidates have registered for the elections. Parties have put forward 420, election committees 54 and coalition parties 9 lists of candidates. People will have to vote in 1,524 municipal councillors and 60 mayors.
