President’s office asks court to evict former president’s widow from residence in Vilnius

The president’s office says that “Brazauskienė had made a commitment to return the state-owned property once her fixed-term lease ended on 12 October 2015. However, neither following the termination date of the contract nor during the additional period after the deadline did Brazauskienė vacate the premises,” the presidential press service said.

Brazauskienė will be able to live in the house in Turniškės until the court’s ruling becomes effective.

The Government allowed Brazauskienė to reside in Turniškės in 2010.

President Dalia Grybauskaitė had said that Lithuania should give up the practice of granting “nomenclature privileges” to families of presidents. The president also stresses that she intends to move out of the presidential residence in Turniškės when her term of office ends.
