“In light of the collected data, conclusions received from the Lithuanian Forensic Science Center and other documents, we found no factual data to prove the initial suspicions about assisting a foreign country to act against the Republic of Lithuania, consequently, the Vilnius County Prosecutor’s Office took a decision earlier today to discontinue the investigation,” reads the press release.

The probe was opened in the fall of 2014 based on reports about students of the Vilnius schools of Sofia Kovalevskaya and Vasiliy Kachalov taking part international youth camps initiated and organized by Russian public organizations.

To thoroughly examine the suspicions, Lithuanian prosecutors analyzed the information contained on computer media, mobile telephones, video cameras, cameras and USB sticks seized during searches, interviewed witnesses and carried out other procedural actions.

The investigation was conducted by a Vilnius prosecutor and investigators of the Vilnius county police office. The decision to drop the probe can be appealed to a senior prosecutor.
