Karbauskis said on Thursday that the situation surrounding the minister “was stage-managed”.

“What happened is almost a political act, because the person who makes the biggest claims is a Social Democrat,” he told BNS after a meeting of the ruling coalition’s council.

According to the LFGU chairman, the council exchanged opinions on the situation, rather than taking any decisions.

He downplayed the situation as insignificant.

The 15min.lt news website has reported recently that Markauskas’ mother, Sofija Markauskienė, has been using several plots of land in the district of Klaipėda without the landowners’ permission for five to six years and that she has been receiving payments from the National Paying Agency for that land.
