The Seimas adopted the resolution with 88 votes in favor, none against and eight abstentions.
In the document, the parliament underscores the role of the United States and its president in ensuring security and stability in Europe and thanks the US for its “constant and resolute policy of non-recognition of the occupation of the Baltic states”.
The resolution cites a statement of former US president George W. Bush, who visited Vilnius on Nov. 22, 2002, that “an enemy of Lithuania will be an enemy of the United States”.
The Lithuanian parliament, in turn, confirmed its commitment to raise the country’s defense spending to at least percent of GDP in 2018 and to ensure a further increase in funding.
