The group said on Tuesday they would hold a meeting on Thursday to discuss potential candidates.
“We have spoken to Prime Minister Saulius Skvernelis and agreed that our group will propose its candidates for justice minister,” Andrius Palionis, the group’s head, said in a press release.
The group “has several serious and competent people who could successfully ensure the smooth functioning of the ministry and carry out the reform of the prison system”, he said.
Gediminas Kirkilas, head of the steering group for the establishment of the new Lithuanian Social Democratic Labour Party, said that it was too early to name any specific candidates.
The Social Democratic Labour group in the Seimas was established by lawmakers who left the Lithuanian Social Democratic Party (LSDP) after it decided to pull out from the government coalition with the Lithuanian Farmers and Greens Union.
