While there is huge demand in Lithuania’s labour market for IT professionals, professional mathematicians are becoming even more valuable for their ability to analyse data and their wider and deeper knowledge that can be kept up to date for far longer, say experts.
“Those who have completed the mathematics studies are very welcome in IT companies for their ability to analyse data,” said professor Raimondas Čiegis.
The Ministry of Education has adopted an order which reinstated a mandatory mathematics state examination for admission to state funded places in higher education (with the exception of the arts).
“In the future most work will be done by automated systems which will be managed by mathematical models,” said telecommunications company Omnitel technical product manager Dr. Ramūnas Šablinskas.
