Media sources have reported that a 330-ton piece of the plant’s reactor equipment fell from a height of 2-4 meters during tests on July 10.

The Astravyets NPP Construction Directorate does not comment on the reported incident.

Lithuania’s environment and foreign ministers say that they have no information as yet about the reported new incident on Belarus’ Astravyets nuclear power plant construction site.

“We have no information. The problem with Belarus is that they provide no information, especially of this kind,” Environment Minister Kęstutis Trečiokas told BNS on Tuesday.

Foreign Minister Linas Linkevičius also said he had no information about incidents in the nuclear facility.

“At the moment, we are trying to find out what is happening,” he said.

Lithuania is the fiercest critic of the Astravyets project, claiming that Belarus fails to ensure safety at the plant under construction just 50 kilometres from Vilnius. Minsk rejects the criticism, saying that it will ensure the highest safety standards at the facility.
