Lithuania’s electricity transmission system operator Litgrid has connected 24 wind turbines with a total capacity of 60 megawatts to the transmission network in Šilutė region.
A 330 kilovolt substation had to be built to get the new wind farm successfully integrated into the Lithuanian power system.
During the first half of 2016, almost 120 MW of wind parks have been connected to the electricity transmission network in the western part of the country.
In February, the largest wind farm in the Baltic countries with the capacity of 73.5 MW was launched in Pagėgiai. In early June, a wind park in Mažeikiai with a 24 wind turbines and the capacity of 45 MW received authorization to start production.
At present, Lithuania has 15 wind farms connected to the electricity transmission grid. Last year, these plants produced 0.65 terawatt-hours of electricity which accounted for 14% of all electricity produced in Lithuania.
