“We’ll see what happens. Expecting something entirely different from what we’ve had for years would probably be something very pessimistic to say – I am convinced things will work out in about the same direction that we should be together. We should closely follow the details that are taking place, however, the election campaign is an election campaign, and long-term commitments are long-term commitments,” Karoblis told BNS.

On November 13, the vice-minister attended an informal meeting in Brussels with colleagues representing European Union (EU) countries. Karoblis is also scheduled to attend a meeting of the EU Foreign Affairs Council on Monday, the Foreign Ministry said.

Lithuania’s Foreign Minister Linas Linkevičius could not fly to Brussels to discuss the result of the US presidential election, as he is due to take an oath in the first meeting of the new Lithuanian parliament of 2016-2020.

In the Tuesday’s elections, Trump defeated his Democratic opponent Hillary Clinton. He should be sworn in early next year.
