“I don’t have the resources to withstand such a large-scale offensive and fight against such force. I made a rational decision not to continue this fight and to leave the LVŽS group,” he said at a news conference on Monday.

Džiugelis dismissed allegations by Ramūnas Karbauskis, the LVŽS leader, that he had tried to split the group and to put pressure on Environment Minister Kęstutis Navickas, adding that he would file a defamation complaint with prosecutors.

The LVŽS group on Monday planned to consider Karbauskis’ proposal to expel Džiugelis.

The lawmaker said he would join the group of non-attached members after leaving the LVŽS group.
