Estonia and Latvia still waiting for profitability assessment of Lithuanian NPP

DELFI / Šarūnas Mažeika

The Head of Lithuanian Government, Algirdas Butkevičius, introduced Lithuania’s proposals and preliminary assessment to his counterparts during the informal meeting of the Baltic prime ministers. According to Butkevičius, cooperation with Japan’s Hitachi will continue.

“We told that economic and energy efficiency assessment was needed. We invited our colleagues to analyse the proposals and introduced them to what has been accomplished in Lithuania,” Butkevičius said at the joint press conference.

Estonian Prime Minister, Taavi Roivas, said that Visaginas NPP was not discussed in depth, but noted that Estonia would not abandon the idea to build a nuclear power plant in Lithuania if the project generated a return.

Latvian Prime Minister, Laimdota Straujuma, expressed a similar view and said that Latvia’s position will become clear once the project’s economic feasibility assessment is prepared.
