Professor Shure was honoured for his prominent work in the fields of semiconductor physics and optoelectronics.
Prime Minister Algirdas Butkevičius also congratulated Hannibalsson, the PM said that “In the new history of Lithuania Iceland‘s name is written with the word ‘first’. The first country to recognize Lithuanian statehood. And Mr Hannibalsson will always remain the first minister who dared to say out loud what the majority of Europe has already been thinking. This is particularly meaningful as this is the day that marks exactly 25 years since Iceland has announced the decision to recognize the Independent State of Lithuania.”
