“Estonia has provided different types of assistance to Ukraine, we have more or less doubled the budget from last year to this, we are also providing assistance in the field of cyber defence capabilities, medical training. So we are doing what we can. At this point, we are not discussing any armaments, any weapons supplies,” Estonia’s Defense Minister Sven Mikser told journalists after meeting with his two Baltic colleagues in Panevėžys, northern Lithuania.
Latvia’s Defense Minister Raimonds Vejonis also said that his country would for now limit its aid to treatment of wounded Ukrainians and other measures but did not speak about weapons.
The Lithuanian minister of defense, Juozas Olekas, recalled about the start of operations of a joint Lithuanian, Polish and Ukrainian brigade LITPOLUKRBRIG in June or July, as well as continued supply of elements of munitions to Ukraine by Lithuania.
Ukraine’s Defense Minister Stepan Poltorak who was present at the meeting thanked the Baltic states for their support, reminding that Ukraine “has paid a very high price for its independence.”
“We understand that the potential of all is limited, therefore, we highly appreciate the help that we get – thank you very much for this. We also also need assistance in terms of lethal weapons. We realize the implying difficulties, we understand the position of the Baltic states, therefore, we will be happy with any help we get,” he told journalists in Lithuania.
