Unlike her Estonian counterpart, Straujuma will not come to Lithuania for the occasion. Her greeting will be broadcast on the Lithuanian television. Her speech will be in Lithuanian.

“Dear brothers! Today Lithuania is joining the world’s largest economic bloc and the European Union‘s political core. Vytis the White Knight now joins Latvian Milda and the land of Estonia. The Baltic states are united with another symbol – the euro, which will improve the welfare and solidity of our people even more. I am especially pleased that this event will mark the beginning of Latvia’s presidency of the Council of the European Union. Dear Lithuanians, welcome to the euro zone!” Straujuma says.
