“The LNG terminal is the success story of the European Union. The security of supply in the region is ensured and it obviously brings increased competition and a reduced gas price. Soon, a liberalised gas market will be operational in all three Baltic countries,” he said when he visited the Klaipeda LNG terminal together with the European Commission Vice-President on energy, Maroš Šefčovič.

“The benefits created by the Klaipėda LNG terminal for the region will increase, because after all the legal barriers are gone, the Baltic market participants will be able to independently choose their gas suppliers,” said Masiulis.

The minister also discussed measures with Šefčovič to reduce the cost of the use of the terminal with the EC Vice-President, including EU support for Lithuania to buy the LNG terminal from its operator.
