Lithuania’s migration department has created a list of 46 people from Russia and Ukraine who were connected to the trial and prosecution of Ukrainian pilot Nadiya Savchenko who will be prohibited from entering Lithuania.
The move was confirmed by Lithuania’s Foreign Affairs Minister Linas Linkevičius.
The list includes people that who have contributed to the criminal cases against Savchenko, director Oleg Sentsov and civil rights activist Alexander Kolchenko.
“We do not recognize these prosecutions which in our view are a fabrication, and those individuals who are directly involved – judges, prosecutors, some of the other players in the Donetsk and Luhansk – fall into this list”, Linkevičius told the news agency ELTA
He did not rule out the possibility that the list could be expanded.
Lithuania is the first European Union (EU) country to create a sanctions list in the wake of the conviction of Savchenko in Russia and the Minister said he expected this would encourage other countries and the EU to follow the example of Lithuania.
Lithuania and four other EU countries have put proposals for a sanctions list to EU foreign policy representative Federica Mogherini.
“Our goal is to get common action,” said Linkevičius.
