Lithuania is aiming to further strengthen its army by planning to buy new helicopters for its special forces units.
The moves has been welcomed by former Special Forces soldiers and the United States welcome the decision.
“The advantage from other vehicles is of course the speed. Second – it is the ability to transport troops to any place. If you are talking about Lithuania, we have in mind the sea – it is one of the situations where the special forces might have to liberate the hostages and of course, if events take place in tall buildings which might require a helicopter to access,” said Aurimas Navys, a former Aitvaras soldier.
