Addressing the council Ambassador Bajarūnas emphasized that NATO Summit is taking place during the crucial moment for the European security. Therefore, the Alliance should be especially strong and be able to deal with current threats and security challenges.
“We have to consider the threat coming from Russia very seriously. Thus, we need to strengthen our solidarity which we have been demonstrating regarding the Russian aggression towards Ukraine so far, by practical commitments. We have to be prepared to act fast and firmly against any aggressor’s actions in the alliance’s territory”, Ambassador stressed.
Ambassador Bajarūnas expressed his expectations that NATO Summit will confirm and strengthen the initiative of compatibility. As a result, such advanced partners as Sweden and Finland could also join the partnership.
Ambassador Mats Åberg, Secretary General of the Swedish Atlantic Council, chaired the annual meeting.
The Swedish Atlantic Council is a non-political organization aiming to promote broad and unbiased discussions on security issues in Sweden, concentrating on Sweden’s security situation and goals, on transatlantic security co-operation in Europe and beyond. The Council organises conferences, study tours, provides and spreads information, publishes reports.
On 1 October 2014, the Swedish Atlantic Council and the Embassy of Lithuania with the support of NATO organize the international conference. The most important results of the NATO Summit in the United Kingdom are going to be discussed during the event. In capacity of NATO Contact Point Embassy 2013-2014, the Embassy of Lithuania in Sweden is responsible for providing and spreading the information about the Alliance, organizing the events and giving the support for the Alliance country-partner Sweden for accomplishing the variety of NATO programs and projects.
