NATO air capabilities to train in Lithuania

The BRTE XXII will train the current rotations of the NATO air policing mission in the Baltic states, including four Gripen JAS-39 fighter jets of the Hungarian Air Force currently stationed at Šiauliai Air Base and four Eurofighter Typhoon jets of the German Air Forces stationed at Amari Air Base in Estonia.

The training event will also involve the C-27J Spartan of the Lithuanian Air Force, air assets from Poland, Norway, and NATO partner countries – Sweden and Finland. The training aircraft will be mid-air refuelled by a U.S. E-3A aircraft while a British Airborne Warning and Control System (AWACS) E-3D aircraft will provide additional command and control.

The BRTE XXII is expected to train roughly 20 aircraft from NATO and partner nations, nearly half of them will land at the Lithuanian Air Force Base in Šiauliai.
