No floating objects found in Baltic Sea in missing pilots search operation

“An Mi-8 [helicopter] was sent to the reported area in the morning and it did not find any objects there,” Captain Lieutenant Antanas Brenčius, deputy commander of the Lithuanian Navy, told BNS on Wednesday.

According to the Ministry of National Defence, to this moment, no objects related to the operation have been located on the sea surface.

The search operation for the missing pilots continues on Wednesday, the ministry said. Currently the LNS Kuršis is examining the An-2 wreck discovered on Tuesday with an underwater robotic video camera and trying to obtain data about the inside of the aircraft. On Wednesday, the underwater operation is to be joined by specialists and equipment from Klaipėda University.

The missing pilots are searched for by the LNS Šakiai and the LAF L410 aircraft. The Eurocopter EC 135 of the State Border Guard Service is preparing to join and the Mi-8 helicopter of the Lithuanian Air Force and U.S. Hercules 130O aircraft are on standby.
