As spring in Lithuania starts warming up, Kaunas has already issued permits to 61 outdoor cafes. Businessmen say the season is expected to begin this weekend.
Kaunas’ external terraces are currently actively being renovated and equipped, and businesses are paying their permit fees.
According to Sonata Šėlienė, the head of the Kaunas municipality’s Licence and Permit Division, 61 outdoor cafe permits have been issued that have provided the city with a total of €16,800.
This year’s permit fee has not changed from that charged last year – €1.2 per cubic metre. From 2009 until 2012, the city did not collect fees from outdoor cafes in order to support these businesses.
