Jaroslaw Czubinski addressed his message of thanks to journalist and author Andrius Tapinas, the initiator of the protest action held outside the Russian Embassy in Vilnius on Friday.

“As Lithuanians and Poles say, a friend in need is a friend indeed. We thank all those who think well of the traditional close cooperation between Poland and Lithuania. Of course, the Polish embassy in Vilnius supports good Polish food,” the ambassador said on the embassy’s Facebook page.

Russia on Wednesday announced a ban on apple, pear, plum and cabbage imports from Poland, effective from Friday.

Moscow cited quality concerns as the reason for the restrictions, but Poles believe that this is an effort to punish Poland for its support to Ukraine.
