
The president underlined that Germany‘s Unity Day was also important for the people of Lithuania who proclaimed independence from the USSR the same year. Huge crowds went out to the streets of Berlin on the night of 2-3 October in 1990 to testify the beginning of a new epoch not only for Germany but also for the whole of Europe.
In her message of congratulations, Grybauskaitė expressed her hope that the feeling of European unity would continue to keep Europeans together.
Dalia Grybauskaitė wished the German leader continued strength and commitment as well as well-being and prosperity for his country.
