Seimas accepts president’s veto on allowing political parties have stakes in media

DELFI / Tomas Vinickas

Seventy-nine MPs voted in favour of adopting amendments to the Law on the Provision of Information to the Public with the president’s proposals, 3 voted against and 26 abstained.

Earlier, on 23 June, the Seimas had adopted amendments to the law that would have allowed political parties to be producers or otherwise involved in providing public information.

Chief Advisor to the President, Rasa Svetikaitė, has said that the law would have abolished a safeguard preventing political parties from owning media outlets.
