The parliament has not had enough time to analyze the party’s proposal to ratify the document on a condition that it should include the Lithuanian clause on imports of genetically modified organisms (GMO) and hormone-treated beef.
CETA was submitted to the Seimas for ratification back in the spring of 2017, but the process stalled by the parliament’s Committee on Health Affairs.
The deal between the EU and Canada eliminates 99 percent of all customs duties. Nevertheless, critics fear that enforcement of the document will flood Lithuania with cheaper genetically-modified products.
