Spain takes over NATO air policing mission in Lithuania from Hungary

The Spanish contingent consists of 130 military pilots, technicians, doctors, communication specialists, as well as four fighter jets.

The ceremony in Šiauliai Aviation base will be attended by Lithuania’s deputy Defence Minister Marijus Velička, and the commanders of Spanish and Hungarian units.

NATO has been conducting the rotating Baltic air policing mission since 2004 when Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia joined the alliance.
