The minister told a press conference that the plane would be lifted from the seabed to the depth of 5-10 meters below the sea surface using special cables. Upon confirmation that it’s safe to dive, six Lithuanian divers will be capable of entering the plane and removing the pilots’ bodies, if they are found.

Upon its inspection, the plane would be lowered back onto the bottom of the sea, Sinkevičius said.

If specialists do not manage to collect sufficient amount of information to identify the cause of the accident, the authorities will then consider salvaging the aircraft, the minister added.
