Last week representatives of AB Lithuanian Railways’ freight forwarding department visited Sweden and Finland. According to Director of the Department, Rima Terminaitė, the number of the participants of the Viking project should soon increase by at least one. She said Green Cargo has filled in the application to join the project.

In Sweden a meeting was held with companies interested in moving cellulose from factories currently under construction in Belarus.

In Finland meetings were held with local companies engaged in timber, paper and cellulose export. They were proposed to use Viking container train to export the goods to Turkey. Currently the details of a test run are being harmonised and results are expected in September.

According to Terminaitė, Finland exports increasingly more goods to the Western part of China, thus freight by train is becoming an attractive alternative.
