Baltic presidents: No additional refugee commitments without external border protection

Lithuanian President Dalia Grybauskaitė and Latvian President Raimonds Vējonis met in the Lithuanian resort town of Palanga on Friday.

During a joint media conference, President Grybauskaitė said: “We have agreed on certain quotas and we stick to our commitments, but it is too early to talk about anything additional before all the agreements are implemented, namely, those on external borders.”

Latvia’s President Vējonis agreed, saying that Riga would not engage in talks on additional commitments, unless the EU did more to address issues like external border protection, migrant repatriation, or human trafficking.
