Commander of NATO Allied Maritime Command visits Vilnius

At the Ministry of National Defence he met with Defence Policy Director Vaidotas Urbelis, Chief of Defence of Lithuania Major General Jonas Vytautas Žukas, and Commander-in-Chief of the Lithuanian Navy Rear Admiral Kęstutis Macijauskas.

Baltic and Baltic-NATO defence cooperation with the key focus on the Baltic navies was presented to the guest at the meetings. Other points addressed were the trilateral maritime cooperation projects – the Baltic Naval Squadron (BALTRON) and the Sea Surveillance Cooperation Baltic Sea (SUCBAS), and the cooperation in the fields of qualification improvement, and search for and neutralisation of unexploded ammunition in the Baltic Sea.

Allied Maritime Command (MARCOM) is the central command of all NATO maritime forces and reports directly to NATO’s Allied Command Operations (ACO) in Mons, Belgium, just as its counterparts, Allied Land Command (LANDCOM), and Allied Air Command (AIRCOM).
