“With this contribution, our country is joining the initiative of the Council of Europe Development Bank and shows solidarity with other European countries and institutions with the purpose of handling the very topical refugee crisis,” said Lithuania’s Finance Minister Rimantas Šadžius.
The MRF is a trust fund set up by the Council of Europe Development Bank (CEB) on 2 October 2015 to help its member states deal with migrant and refugee flows.
The MRF is endowed with a EUR 5m contribution from the CEB. The bank has invited donors to contribute funds to reach an amount of EUR 20-25m.
Besides Lithuania, the fund has been supported by Ireland, Sweden, the Holy See, San Marino, Luxembourg, the Slovak Republic, Germany, Cyprus, and the European Investment Bank.
