Established in 2014, the tri-national military unit will be formally named after Ostrogski on Thursday in a ceremony in the Lublin Castle, in Poland, that is expected to be attended by the three countries’ defense ministers.

As part of the ceremony, the brigade’s flag will be handed over to its new commander, Colonel Zenon Brzuszko of Poland. The unit’s commander is appointed by each country on a rotational basis.

Lithuania has assigned its Grand Duchess Birute Uhlan Battalion to the brigade. Lieutenant Colonel Eligijus Senulis of Lithuania serves as the chief of staff of the tri-national unit, which consists of up to 4,000 troops.

Under the command of Ostrogski, the allied forces of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania and the Kingdom of Poland defeated the army of the Grand Duchy of Moscow in the battle of Orsha in 1514.
