Lithuania resumes search for missing An-2 plane in Baltic Sea

The Ministry of National Defence has delegated an Air Force transport airplane Spartan C-27J to the search and rescue operation.

Lithuania has also asked for assistance from Sweden and Latvia. The operation is headed by the Lithuanian army‘s Maritime Rescue and Coordination Centre.

The An-2 with two highly experienced pilots went missing en route from Sweden to Lithuania on Saturday afternoon.

After scrutiny of the Baltic Sea by Lithuanian, Swedish and Latvian warships and military airplanes did not reveal any traces of the missing airplane, the search was suspended after dark on Sunday evening.

An investigation into the incident has been opened at the Lithuanian Transport and Communications Ministry.
