Lithuanian citizen formally charged with espionage in Russia

The Lithuanian citizen’s lawyer Anatoly Abritsov informed news agency Interfax about this on Tuesday, 26 May.

According to the lawyer, the Lithuanian citizen is accused of having violated Article 276 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation and faces charges for espionage.

Earlier the Russian Federal Security Service (FSB) announced that “a foreign spy was caught on 19 May with evidence when a Russian citizen attempted to transfer classified information”. According to Russian officials, he admitted to being an officer of the Second Investigation Department under the Ministry of National Defence of Lithuania.
