“Nord Stream 2 is some kind of test of Europe’s energy policies. It’s a political declaration and an attempt by Russia again to try to influence Europe and to divide Europe. Nord Stream is a ‘Mistral test’ for Europe’s energy union,” she said.
The Lithuanian President has pointed out that the original Nord Stream pipeline linking Russia with Germany under the Baltic Sea was underused and that there was no need to build a second stage.
Grybauskaite earlier said that the new gas pipeline was also aimed at undermining the status of Ukraine as a transit country.
The new pipeline would double the capacity of the first Nord Stream gas pipeline connecting Russia and Germany.
