Prime Minister of Lithuania Saulius Skvernelis announced that he has stage one lymphoma, a type of blood cancer. During the press conference which took place today, August 28, he expressed his hope for a full recovery.
“It’s lymphoma, stage one, no spreading, and I am undergoing treatment, it’s chemotherapy. I completed the first cycle yesterday, and I feel great today,” he said to the journalist.
According to the Prime Minister, the doctors detected changes in his lymphatic system during a routine health check in May.
49 years old Skvernelis’ treatment cycle against cancer should end on November 4, as he said during the conference. Since the doctors are hopeful of his recovery, Skvernelis said: “I also hope for that”.
The prime minister took several days off this week, including Monday and Tuesday.
