Other members of the council include Sweden’s ex-PM Carl Bildt, US Senator John McCain, Georgia’s ex-president Mikheil Saakashvili, the European Parliament’s Foreign Affairs Committee Chairman Elmar Brok, Swedish economist Anders Aslund, Slovakia’s ex-PM Mikulas Dzurinda and MEP Jacek Saryusz Wojsky.
Ukraine’s pro-Western administration already includes several Lithuanians. Aivaras Abromavičius serves as minister of economy, former European commissioner Algirdas Šemeta works as business ombudsman, while former economy vice-minister Adomas Audickas and former presidential adviser Nerijus Udrėnas work as advisers in Ukraine.
Next year, the free trade agreement between the European Union and Ukraine should step into force regardless of strong opposition from Russia. The Western world has urged Ukraine to take resolute reforms to fight corruption.
