On July 16, the fighter-jets took off to identify and accompany a Russian reconnaissance airplane Il-20 flying in the international air-space from continental Russia to the Russian Kaliningrad region, the Lithuanian Ministry of National Defence said on Monday.

The airplane was flying according to a pre-filed flight plan, with its automatic transponder switched off and maintained radio communication with flight control centers. No violations were reported in the Lithuanian air-space.

Norwegian and Italian fighter-jets are performing the mission from Lithuania, with British and Belgian jets stationed in Estonia and Poland, respectively.
